Product Description

The Tang Dynasty, with its capital at Chang'an (present-day Xi'an), the most populous city in the world at the time, is regarded by historians as a high point in Chinese civilization — equal to or surpassing that of the Han Dynasty - as well as a golden age of cosmopolitan culture. Its territory, acquired through the military campaigns of its early rulers, was greater than that of the Han period, and rivaled that of the later Yuan Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. The dynasty featured two of Chinese history's major prosperity periods, the Zhen'guan Prosperity (Tang Taizong) and Kaiyuan Prosperity (Tang Xuanzong's early rule). During its height, the Tang Dynasty was one of the greatest powers of the time.

The piece that we are offering was made by Chris Zhou, winner of the Masters of Fire Contemporary Bladesmiths Competition. Every aspect of this sword has been expertly crafted by one of the best blade smiths in the world. The blade was folded 13 times to create more than 8.000 layers of steel. This alone could only have been done by an expert smith. The blade has been quenched in the legendary spring of Longquan, or the dragon spring. The fittings of the sword and scabbard are bronze, cast in the lost wax method. This piece is a very limited edition production, with less than twelve of these swords in existence. The cord wraps are dark brown silk and the scabbard is made of ancient sandalwood, with Turqoise used for a small touch of color. This is not a replica of history; this sword is a piece of history in the making. The sword includes a Certificate of Authenticity, a serial number, official stamp of Chris Zhou, and Chris Zhou's signature.
