Product Description
Bob Engnath was a legend in the sword community, and is greatly missed, and we're honored to have been asked to sell one of of his impressive monosteel Katanas. Bob Engnath worked heavily in steel salvaged from Train rails, and in 1050, this Katana is one of the former, and I'm assured this blade came direct from bob while he was still using Rail Road Track.
The fittings are Fred Lohman orginals and include iron fuchi, kashira, and tsuba as well as beautiful deep relief cut dragon menuki, and brass "keylock" seppa. The sterling silver habaki was cast custom for this piece. Traditional stone polishing and ratan-wrapped saya are by Arizona native and Kendoka Sensei Randy Black.
This is a formidable blade, and is in the heavier duty range. The stout kissaki is chu, or medium, length. This piece was a commision and was to recreat the feel of earlier period pieces better suited to deal with armor, and more rigerous combat. As a truly battle-field oriented piece, this Katana OOZES presence, and is one of the most substantial we have handled, at 3 3/4 pounds.
Nagasa (Blade): 30"
Tsuka (handle): 13.5"
Sori (depth of cuvature): 1.5"
Included is a custom made sword bag, hand stitched from a silk Japanese Obi.
