The French Marine Cutlass is a beautiful replica of a classic French cutlass. This short, single hand sword features a slightly curved, antiqued, full tang steel blade with a black steel bowl hilt. This single hand sword includes a black leather scabbard with brass fittings. The French inscription on the spine of the blade translates to “Fight on brothers!”. The cutlass is best known as the sailor's weapon of choice, the naval side-arm, likely because it was also sturdy enough to cut through heavy ropes, canvas and wood. It is also short enough to use in fairly close quarters, such as in the rigging or below decks. Another advantage to the cutlass was its simplicity of use. The cutlass required less training than the rapier or court sword, and was more effective as an infantry weapon than the sabre.
