The Amazons were an ancient nation of female warriors or a society dominated by women, at the edges of Scythia in Sarmatia (Herodotus). The histories and legends in Greek mythology appear to have a factual basis in warrior women among the Sarmatians; this society of female warriors seem to have had their roots in very early eastern Bronze Age. This stands in stark contrast to other women in classical Greek society, who were expected to be passive and dependent on males.
This helm is a replica of a piece that is said to have been worn by a warrior-captain of the Amazons at a battle in what is now Turkey. It has a red crest, made from real horse hair. The helmet is a brass piece and is completely wearable.
