A morion is an open-faced, brimmed helmet. The morion comb is distinguished from other types of morion by having the centre-line of its skull embossed as a high ridge. Although commonly thought of as a Spanish Morion helmet, this helm became a universally popular style for pikemen during the reign of Edward VI of England. These helmets were also popular all over Europe, especially in Germany, in the 16th century, and, like this example, they were often decorated with etchings.
